Malcolm X on the Assasination of Lumumba in the Congo

Malcolm X points to the assassination of Patrice Lumumba in Africa by Moise Tshombe (with the help of the CIA) as a clear example of post-Colonial foreign interference. Lumumba was the first legally elected Prime Minister of the Republic of the Congo after he helped win its independence from Belgium in June 1960. Ten weeks later, Lumumba’s government was deposed in a coup. He was subsequently imprisoned and murdered on January 17th 1961, with clear signs pointing to the support and complicity of both Belgium and the United States.
